About Us

What We Do

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. The Foundation will consider the wish of any child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition who is between the ages of 2-1/2 and 18 and lives anywhere in the state of Colorado. A child can be referred to Make-A-Wish by a parent, the child or medical personnel. We work closely with the child's doctor in determining medical eligibility.

Our chapter uses volunteer wish grantors who meet with the child and family to determine the child's truest wish. Volunteer wish grantors then work with the staff Directors of Wish Granting to put all the pieces of the wish together. The entire family is included in the child's magical wish. The wish is a time which provides joy, respite and family healing and is a time when the focus is NOT on the child's illness. The magic we provide by granting a wish gets the whole family out of the hospital and offers them a time of fun and togetherness.

The average cost of a wish is $6,000 with some wishes costing much less, some costing much more. We rely upon in-kind gifts and donations from individuals and corporations, as well as the generous donation of time from many volunteers and celebrities. Each year, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado hosts three large events including a half-marathon and 5K race in the spring, a best-ball golf tournament in the summer and a gala in the fall. In addition, we also coordinate more than 40 external events hosted by groups and organizations around the state each year. For a complete listing of our events, visit our Calendar.
